Emer is a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, having obtained a B.Comm from NUI Galway. She also holds a Diploma in Corporate Insolvency and qualified as a Personal Insolvency Practitioner.
A Galway native, Emer qualified as a chartered accountant in the West of Ireland before moving to Dublin to pursue a career in tax with KPMG. In 2002 she joined Warren & Partners, a Dublin based boutique tax advisory practice. In 2009 Emer founded her own firm, Emer Joyce & Company, initially operating in Dublin and returning to Galway in 2013, before merging with EY. Most recently Emer held the position of Head of Taxation with Grant Thornton, Galway, before joining Laura Lynch & Associates as a Tax Partner.
Emer is heavily involved with Galway Chamber of Commerce and was appointed as a Council Member in 2019. Having been self-employed for over 7 years, Emer has great empathy with business owners, their needs and understands the issues that keep them awake at night.
Emer is one of two industry representatives on the Steering Committee of the NUIG Employability Award and as a guest speaker to business students.
Emer has strong links in the local business community across a range of business sectors, with a particular interest in advising family businesses on both corporate and personal tax matters. She has extensive experience in advising on corporate reorganisations to optimise the availability of tax reliefs available to entrepreneurs and their families. During her time in EY she was a key member of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards team.
She is a regular speaker at ITI seminars, including the Annual Conference.
Emer is an avid runner and a regular sea swimmer in Galway bay.
