Laura is a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, having obtained a BA in Law & Accounting from the University of Limerick in 1998. She was awarded a Fellowship of the Irish Tax Institute in 2018.
Laura trained with Arthur Andersen, during which time she achieved First Place in the Irish Tax Institute Part 3 Final Exams. She left there as Tax Manager in 2002 to indulge her travel bug and spent almost two years in Australia, where she took on lots of non-tax jobs to fund her backpacking, before being sponsored by KPMG, Sydney in their Property and Structured Finance Division. She returned to Ireland in 2004 and worked with SWS Group Corporate Services in Cork, before moving to Galway in 2006 as Tax Director in Mazars.
In that time, she has forged strong links within the business community, building a client base across individual and corporate SMEs, professional services firms and business angel investors, with a particular interest in the MedTech sector, which is so strong in Galway.
She is also heavily involved in the Irish Tax Institute (ITI), having lectured on their behalf for several years in the Part 3 professional exams and Department of Finance diploma course. She is a regular speaker at ITI seminars, including the Annual Conference and delivery of their annual Finance Bill tour. She was co-author of the ITI’s annual publication, FINAK, which provides in-depth commentary and comprehensive technical analysis of each section of a Finance Act following enactment, covering Finance Acts 2015 to 2018.
Laura is a Council Member of the Irish Tax Institute and represents the ITI as current Chair of TALC (direct taxes) Committee, which is the main forum for making representations between Revenue and practitioners on the administration of tax in Ireland.
Laura also participated in the Timoney Advanced Leadership Programme in 2019.
